Humanity - Work

Work is an important factor for human beings in achieving self-fulfillment and identity. Work can be satisfying, meaningful and helpful – but it can also lapse into the opposite.

From a socio-political perspective the challenges are evident, since work is a human right. Associated issues concern the compatibility of profession and family – the so-called work/life balance – reasonable work times, realistic mobility demands, an appropriate income and a humane working climate without distinction of gender or origins.

Joseph's Chapel

St. Joseph is considered the patron saint of work. It is quite significant that the Italian-speaking stone quarry workers found their spiritual home in St. Joseph's Chapel. In the quarry in Oberklien many local workers and Russian prisoners of war perished, after having been assigned to forced labor.

The sober, rectangular construction was dedicated to St. Joseph. The two-bay prayer room has a vaulted ceiling and dates from the time of construction, around 1900.
